Superwatt Cycling

Welcome to Superwatt Cycling

Superwatt is a proud sponsor to cycling in South Africa – both directly and through one of the largest cycling clubs in Cape Town, Club 100.

Superwatt entered an elite racing team in the 2009 Giro del Capo, and international stage race culminating in the Cape Argus PnP Cycling Tour, the largest timed cycling race in the world.

Superwatt boasts Veterans and Masters cycling teams, and actively promotes ladies cycling. Superwatt entered a ladies team in the 2009 Panorama Tour, and fielded several teams in the major mountain bike events including the grueling 8 day Absa Cape Epic, the 24 hour Trans-Baviaans, and the To Hell & Back – in which both directors Patrick Gaertner and Louis Scholtz took part.

Patrick Gaertner has completed the Absa Cape Epic for the past 3 years in a row, and this year both Patrick Gaertner and Louis Scholtz are taking part in a Superwatt sponsored 5 day mountain bike endurance event that sees 12 riders completing a ride along the borders Botswana and Zambia, and ending near Swakopmund in Namibia – where Superwatt is installing a major generator backup solution for the nuclear power giant – Areva.

Latest News

"Cancellation of 2011 Giro del Capo" via the PPA website.

It is with deep regret that the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust announced that the 2011 edition of the Giro del Capo has been cancelled.

“Following months of discussions and negotiations with various potential sponsors, the required sponsorship has not been secured to ensure the running of next year’s event,” confirmed the Trust’s CEO, David Bellairs.

“It is extremely difficult to secure major sponsorship deals in a niche sport like elite cycling, especially with the announcement of another major tour of a similar classification ending a week prior to when the Giro del Capo was scheduled to take place,” Bellairs said.

For the past 18 years, the prestigious Giro del Capo has provided most local cyclists with their only opportunity to compete against top international cyclists.
